Hello everybody ..hope your excited just like us about our new Witch Tree cd's coming soon! preorder if you like let us know if you want a copy ok.?
The blog today is about Noe Valles and his bass guitar rig for our Witch Tree Tour which will start very soon here in Texas in order for the blog to flow better and for you to understand it..(it will be full of guitar geek speak by the way).we will put up some pix of Noe's touring bass guitars here we go..

Noe Valles has always been fond of the Rickenbacker Bass Guitar ..since he was a little kid 1st starting out in music.
from his heros who played Rick 4001 basses....like Paul McCartney with The Beatles,Chris Squire of Yes,Lemmy with Motorhead..Noe Valles always has loved the sound of the Ricky 4001 Bass Guitar..funny thing is his 1st pro bass instrument when he was a teenager is the 1979 Ricky 4001 right handed bass guitar featured here in Natural Glo refinish.!!!..this is the 3rd time this instrument has been repainted(revarnished) thxx to Peter Mark Glass our luthier guitar builder buddy in Austin Texas ! Peter just redid the bass guitar in 2010..Noe got it back from Austin this March 2011..it was never in a natural finish and all the brothers agree it has a beautiful maple grain flow to the wood..Texas Joe Valles Believes for some reason or another This is Noe's most musical Ricky 4001 bass guitar ..it has a singing quality that is very musical and warm...plus the instrument is very light...not bad for a bass that went through a fire !!!! and survived with some slight heat damage and burns..! we will explain..
Back in 1984 our dad Joe Valles Sr..knew a guy who rebuilt starters and he shared a stall in Chuy's Radiater Shop in Southmost area of Brownsville..Texas (sadly no longer there..) ...and just passivley told my dad that Chuy's Tex-Mex band had a fire wreck and destroy thier trailer full of music gear..and that some of the gear was for sale to whoever wanted to restore the badly burned instruments...well my dad left his starter to be rebuilt and said he would come back the next day for it...and bring his kids who were putting a band together and needed some instruments...Our dad came home that day and told us about the situation and we were excited..! our minds were racing with the prospect of kool gear ready to be salvaged..for our rock and roll band !
When we got thier the next day we were pretty bummed all the amps and p.a.speakers were pretty torched and messed up..so were the drums...so we were bummed .Then Chuy walked out and said " I got this maybe you guys can fix it...its a bass guitar..." and we said ok lets take a look...well our eyes popped out we could not believe it! This Rickenbacker 4001 bass instrument was in a burned and smoked out case with fire licks all over it..smoke damage and a little water damage..on the finish..(it was originally Fireglow ...Rickenbackers..Sunburst finish) the strings were black and charred...but Texas Joe could see it could be rebuilt..Noe & Eloy both loved it right away and both knew we could rebuild the bass ! so we told our dad to get it for us...and Chuy could see we were pretty happy and delighted so he felt we should have it ..he told my dad we could have it for like 75.00 or 100 bux..something along those lines that part we dont remember clearly..as the men (our Dad and Chuy) walked off to discuss this part...but a deal was struck and our dad told us if we were sure the bass could be fixed (he didnt want us wasting his hard earned money..lol..)..We all agreed absolutely..it could be fixed, Chuy was laughing...at our excitement...Well my dad paid, we all jumped into my dads Ford F 150 ..and drove home all excited...Noe wanted the bass repainted white with a Texas Flag on it somewhere on the body....(im sure if we knew about buffing and waxing we might have left the original finish on it) during the coming weeks we took it to a paint shop here in Brownsville called Seren-Dip-Ity Paints...(sadly also no longer around) and we got the bass painted Snow White..for like 35 buxx..it looked great ! it stayed that color up until 2009 when Noe felt a change was needed... and Peter Mark did the refinish job on it...
The Huge Dimarzio Model One bass pickup was Courtesy of Dave Valdez @ the also now defunct High School Music Service in Brownsville Texas...(Texas Joe would later work thier in 1988) we paid like 75 buxx for the Model one pick up..we wanted a more powerful sound like Mel Shecher got with Grand Funk Railroad...so we put that pickup in the front and wooow ! it was loud and distorted very kool! and to this day the Model One still has that huge wooly sound !
This 1979 Rickenbacker Bass guitar has served Noe Valles well..it went to Los Angeles with the Valles Brothers Band..played Hollywood nightclubs and live shows with this bass..has been to Florida and Miami all over Mexico..and definately all over Texas...on many a concert stage..in Austin....This Ricky has also..been on alot of Valles Bros recordings and videos...(more of that plus pictures will surface sooner or later here !) its been a great bass to Noe Valles ..Now it has a beautiful new lease on life..and will be used on The Witch Tree tour of 2011..!

The 1977 Left Handed 4001 Rickenbacker Bass guitar shown here in original Maple Glo Finish is another story alltogether that has been in Noe Valles collection for sometime..since about 1991 or 1992..This Bass was picked up at Norwalk Pawn...in Norwalk California during our stint in Los Angeles..from 1988 to 1998...This bass was found by Texas Joe Valles one day while doin his "pawn shop rat" tours of local pawn shops looking for deals...like he has always done..well this was no exception...a great bass at a great price Noe Valles went later that week it was still there and purchased it for what is now a very little sum of money(around 300 bux no more than 350) when it comes to fine American Vintage instruments..it has a quirk ...that funny enough the band has never seemed to mind..somebody placed a Fender precision Bass pickup in the middle position of the Rick..with a 4 way rotary switch..and The Bass has a vast amount of tonal ranges ! very unique for sure..Texas Joe Valles Feels this is Noe Valles Loudest !! and we mean really loudest Ricky Bass it has so much power in it we cant figure out how or why it just naturally booms like crazy !
There is a famous picture of the band playing under a huge Old Oak Tree in Austin Texas in 1993..and Noe used the bass for that show ..Texas Joe remembers several musicians commenting That the bass player was pulling a" Jimi Hendrix" playing a lefty Ricky Bass right handed..the foto of this event is further down this blog somewhere...
We would like to add that ever since seeing King X and Eric Johnson Band with Doug Pinnick..and Kyle Brock respectively..(2 other Texas Power Trios). The Valles Flying Machine has always used a 3 amp set up for the bass ...for most major shows...just like these bands ..A 3 amps setup seems to have a fuller sound...for a power trio...and it fills up rather nicely but it is wayyyyyyy....more gear to haul around but the look and the benefits outweigh..the weight ! ha ha !
for now Noe Valles is using a Trace Elliot 300 watt solid state head for clean...a Ampeg Vt22..100 watt...for a warmer sound...and a Marshall 350 watt Mode Four Head w/Marshall4x12 cabinet for the overdrive sound...with 4 Electro Voice.cabinets 2 4x10 and 2 1 x15 cabs for his sound...and it is huge..when we need more volume 2 more Marshall
4 x 12 Cabs are used !!! to fill out the sound..
well hope you all liked this little blog...if u wanna hear more of Noe Valles sound feel free to go to our bandcamp website and download and purchase some of our songs..ok..?
